Construction of a new life science complex on the UT campus was completed in late 1997. This complex couples approximately 175,000 sq. ft. of new, high-tech classroom and state-of-the-art laboratory space with a somewhat larger amount of prior space such that the Departments of Biology and Chemistry, along with the entire College of Pharmacy, are now joined within a contiguous arrangement that is conducive to both formal and casual interactions among the various faculty and students. From this complementary physical setting, basic and applied research within all aspects of the life sciences is conducted at the undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels. Academic and research activities are further enhanced by the presence of four, well- established UT Centers of Excellence , such as the CD3, which are located within the new complex.
The CD3 occupies four 1,000 sq. ft. labs in the life science complex. The CD3's office complex and conference room are a convenient meeting place for the member network and serve as a hub to conduct research discussions and administrative functions.
All of the facilities and equipment essential for new drug discovery and development in the biological, chemical, and pharmaceutical sciences are housed within the CD3 and immediately adjacent laboratories. Some additional, key facilities located on the UT campus are listed below:
